Every mural begins with the family and the space itself. There is no catalog to choose from and no design waiting to be repeated. Together, we consider the colors, characters, landscapes, memories, and small details that feel meaningful to you, allowing an original story to take shape on the walls of your home.

How a HudSun Mural Comes to Life:
01 — The Conversation
Every mural begins with a conversation. We talk about the vision you have for your nursery, child's room, or shared family space—the colors you're drawn to, the feeling you want the room to have, and any characters, landscapes, memories, or meaningful elements you imagine being part of it.
02 — Experiencing the Space
Before I begin designing, I spend time in the room itself. I look at the natural light, architecture, furniture, scale, and how the family will move through the space. I take in the atmosphere of the room and begin imagining how the artwork can belong there—not simply as something painted onto a wall, but as something created specifically for that space.
03 — The Story Takes Shape
From there, I begin developing the concept. I create an initial sketch that brings together our conversation and what I experienced in the room. You'll have an opportunity to see the direction, share your thoughts, and request changes before anything touches the wall.
04 — Drawing Directly on the Wall
Once we've landed on the concept, I begin sketching directly onto the wall. This is where the mural starts to become something entirely its own. I consider how each element interacts with the next, where the eye naturally travels, and how the artwork moves through the room.
05 — Building the World
Then the painting begins. Layer by layer, color, detail, movement, characters, nature, and small discoveries are added until the original sketch becomes an immersive environment. Some details are carefully planned; others develop organically as the mural comes to life.
The result isn't a design pulled from a catalog.
It's a world created for your family, in your space, from the very beginning.

The mural may be finished when I leave, but the story doesn't necessarily end there.
One family shared that their daughter now walks around her room before bed to say goodnight to each of the animals in her mural — and pet each one twice.

How much does a custom nursery mural cost?
Every mural is created specifically for the family and space, so pricing varies by project at . Size, level of detail, wall surface, location, and the complexity of the design all factor into the final cost. A simple, spacious composition will generally cost less than a highly detailed mural that fills an entire room. Once I learn a little about your space and what you're envisioning, I can provide a project-specific estimate.
How does the mural design process work?
It starts with a conversation. I want to hear what you imagine for the room — the colors, feeling, characters, landscape, or little details you would love your child to grow up surrounded by. From there, I visit the space, experience the room in person, and begin developing the story and composition. You'll receive a preliminary sketch and have an opportunity to request changes before anything is drawn on the wall.
Do I need to know exactly what I want before contacting you?
Not at all. Some families come to me with a very specific idea, while others simply know how they want the room to feel. We can build the concept together from colors, animals, places, stories, interests, or even a single idea you love.
Can you incorporate something meaningful to our family into the mural?
Absolutely. Those details are often what make a mural special. We can incorporate meaningful animals, landscapes, plants, places, family references, or subtle details that have significance to you. The goal isn't simply to fill a wall — it's to create something that feels like it belongs to your family.
Can my child interact with the mural?
I love creating murals that give children things to discover. Animals, plants, tiny details, movement, and relationships between characters can encourage children to point, name, imagine, tell stories, and engage with their surroundings. One parent even told me that her daughter now says goodnight to each animal in her mural — and pets them twice — before she'll fall asleep.
How long does it take to paint a nursery mural?
Most murals take anywhere from three days to approximately a week to paint, depending on the size and level of detail. There is also considerable work that happens before painting begins, including consultation, concept development, sketching, revisions, planning, and wall preparation. Larger or especially intricate projects may require additional time.
What kind of paint do you use? Is it safe for a nursery?
I use low-VOC acrylic latex wall paint for mural backgrounds and professional artist acrylics for detailed artwork. The paints I use are non-toxic and appropriate for children's bedrooms and family spaces. Zero-VOC wall paint can also be used upon request.
Do we need to leave the house while you're painting?
Usually, no. We can discuss the room, your family's routine, ventilation, and the scope of the project beforehand so you know exactly what to expect while I'm working in your home.
Do you paint Disney characters or other copyrighted characters?
I don't reproduce licensed characters or another artist's work. Every HudSun Studios mural is an original design. If your child loves a particular story, character, or world, however, we can talk about what they love about it and create something completely original inspired by those broader themes.
Can you paint more than just nurseries?
Yes! I create murals for children's bedrooms, playrooms, shared family spaces, and other areas of the home. The same collaborative process applies — the artwork is designed specifically around the people who will experience the space.
What areas do you serve?
I'm based in Tarrytown, New York and create custom murals throughout Westchester County and the surrounding Hudson Valley. For projects outside the immediate area, reach out and we can discuss location and travel.
How far in advance should I book my mural?
I am often booked several weeks in advance, so reaching out early is recommended — particularly if you're planning around a baby's arrival, move-in date, birthday, or room renovation. What should the wall be like before you arrive?
A smooth, properly prepared wall gives the artwork the best foundation. Once I see your space, I can let you know whether any patching, priming, cleaning, or other preparation should happen before painting begins. I do not handle repairs.
What happens if I want to make changes to the design?
That's exactly why the sketching stage exists. You'll see the proposed concept before I begin drawing on your wall, and we can discuss adjustments at that stage. I want us to feel confident about the direction before the mural begins.
